We’ve got two great dogs at home. The one that you can see watching us from the dock’s name is Lexi. She’s a Labrador Retriever and has been an angel in the family for the six years we have had her. Now I know that animals may not be your highest priority of interest. But I owe it to these girls to give them a little credit. After all, they are a big part of my life.
Just nine months ago, we decided to get a little puppy. And when I say little, I mean little. Annie is our 3.5 lb Poo-Chi. Or poodle chihuahua. And what a name! Everyone who hears the name Chihuahua, immediately thinks of her as snappy and unfriendly.
Wrong!
Lexi has been a great mentor and adopted mother to Annie, so she has learned well. Annie is just about the sweetest small dog you can find. She loves attention, and will sit on your lap all day long. (This can be a problem if you want to get up from your chair!) She rarely barks, except for at her reflection in the window, and sometimes at squirrels. instead of chasing rabbits and squirrels like Lexi does, Annie will chase and catch grasshoppers for us. She never ceases to amuse us with her eccentric personality. She even tries to chase our cat who is at least three times her size!
Though Lexi is probably smarter, Annie has learned tricks faster. She can sit, lie down, roll over, play dead, shake a paw, sneeze on command, put her paws up in surrender, and hop around in a circle on her back legs.
“Lord, please make me the person my dog thinks I am”
This is one of my favorite quotes, as it expresses both Lexi and Annie’s affection perfectly.
Besides having two amazing dogs and an over sized cat, we also have two horses. Gus is an Arabian-Warm blood cross, and is my sister’s big boy. Jacky (Jackson) is my black quarter horse, and he is just full of mischief. My sister and I love to ride the boys on the trails through our forest.
So there you have it. An intro to the animals in my life.
Hope you enjoyed,
Lara
